City Club at River Ranch has always been, at its core, a place where members can enjoy experiences that enhance and complement everyday life. The scope of amenities that attracts our members initially includes everything that is tangible –a fitness center with state of the art equipment, a world class tennis facility, banquet facilities that create the perfect setting for that special event, or a beautifully decorated spa. In speaking with many of you over the years, however, it is evident that in addition to our amazing facilities, our members also crave personalized customer service, avenues for socializing within the club environment, and the opportunity to communicate ideas, comments, or complaints to club management.

Based on this knowledge, our strategic direction, our corporate culture, or our creative energy if you will, is focused to ensure that we provide the value and variety of activities that you have requested. Many of you have participated in the ever popular fitness offerings such as Zumba, Bootcamp, Crossfit, Personal Training, Aerobic Interval or Pilates sessions (to name a few), having loads of fun and socializing while getting fit. For business professionals, one of our more recent avenues for networking is our Business Forum Lunch & Learn series, featuring a line up of leaders in government, oil & gas, banking, health care, and the economy. We are also working toward a second forum geared exclusively toward health and wellness, recruiting esteemed presenters in the field and offering deliciously prepared wholesome foods. If music is your fancy, then be sure to sign up for Charmaine Neville or Allen Toussaint in our concert dinner series. Also, remember to make your reservations to secure your table al fresco for Rhythms on the River. And for wine enthusiasts, a credit of $150 per member to be used toward wine purchases is being granted to our Wine Connoisseur’s Club members.

Riverspa and Carriage House Hotel, although open to the public, also have fantastic member benefits. Riverspa offers monthly member specials, and the Carriage House Hotel invites you to enjoy member preferred rates on both its suites and extended stay products.

In order to provide the services and amenities that you envision, I look forward to obtaining feedback through any mode that is convenient for you. We have comment cards located at all guest service desks that are reviewed and answered daily. Informal conversations in the club, email, phone, or scheduled meetings are also opportune. I am active in teaching cycling and Pilates, involved in planning all member events, and clock 5 miles/day on my pedometer while walking through all club areas. Please do not hesitate to share your inspirations, grievances, or comments at any time.

Sincerely,

Mary Beth Langlinais

New Year’s Resolutions – In One Year and Out the Next? Not at City Club.
December 30, 2009

Every New Year millions of Americans join health clubs, vow to lose weight, improve muscle tone, or lower cardiovascular risk factors. What usually happens, unfortunately, is that after a few short weeks they fall back into their old habits. While there is no magic pill to make your resolutions come true, our philosophy at City Club is to provide various membership experiences to keep you motivated every month of the year. Let us help you maximize your results, reap enjoyment from variety, and ultimately balance your life.

Below are a few favorite picks for City Club’s Lifestyle Rx :

• Create a written plan of action, thinking year round not just New Year. A goal must translate into clear steps that can be put into action. Meet with our fitness professionals to create your 2010 action plan.

• Invest in a professional service. Personal training sessions, Pilates or yoga private sessions, or tennis lessons are proactive choices to get fit and have fun.

• Enjoy new workout gear. Let our retail specialists ensure you look and feel your best in the gym and around town. Whether you choose running, cycling, tennis, Pilates or yoga, CCRR has a fashion tailored to suit your activities.

• Practice mindful, balanced eating. Lafayette is the last place where you want to be on a diet, so find your balance. Enjoy fresh, whole foods, consisting of lean meats, fresh fruit and vegetables, high fiber grains, and healthy fats. Schedule your appointment with our nutritionist to customize a plan for you. Enjoy nutritious choices in the City Club Grill or Oasis for various options.

• Enhance your knowledge through Lunch & Learns. Pennington Biomedical Research Center’s Dr. Timothy Church, Economist Loren Scott, and Former Governor Buddy Roemer, are among those who will surely enhance your awareness of pertinent current topics in 2010.

• Appreciation for music, art, culinary experiences, and wine. Enjoy our music concert series, our art gallery in the fitness center, Executive Chef Pat Mould’s culinary themed events, Holistic Chef Betsy’s cooking demos, Wine Connoisseur’s Club, and more!

• Pamper Yourself. Reward your efforts with a therapeutic massage, facial, or other service at Riverspa, or relax in the fitness center whirlpool, sauna, or steam room.

• Get out of your comfort zone. Be courageous and try something new. Zumba, Boot Camp, Cardio Karate, cycling, Cross Fit, or tennis, … Acquire enjoyment and results from your membership privileges through variety. Look forward to the annual February Fit Card!

I thank all of you who have experienced the soft opening of City Club Grill & Bar, your casually elegant member restaurant offering the perfect blend of comfort classics, healthy fare, and City Club traditions. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and many of you who have attended are enthusiastically testifying that we have successfully designed a concept with a culinary variation that you cannot experience anywhere else in the Acadiana region. Moving into September, we are pleased to begin offering Family Nights, Martini Madness, and various themed events, all of which you can explore within this newsletter issue.

We have also received a fair amount of the interest surveys that we asked our members to complete and are now in the process of creating a few clubs within the club based on your responses. The first one is an impressive line up of Lunch & Learns focusing on topics that are pertinent to the Lafayette business community as depicted below. A second group that our members are requesting is a Dance Club, and a committee has been formed that will unveil the specifics as the particulars are perfected. Other areas of interest include a women’s luncheon forum, more wine & beer events, City Club traveling tour groups, and dozens more. If you aspire to become a club leader, please let me know as we are looking for passionate members to assist in coordinating our efforts.

On one final note, I would like to introduce the movement toward a member sponsored referral program. You may have noticed that City Club does not advertise through traditional media, for we know that our best mode of referral comes from our satisfied members. If you have someone whom you feel would enjoy our club (either full membership or dining social), please present your applicant to Sandra Domingue, Membership Director. Note that an initiation fee will be instituted in the near future for dining social memberships, so recruit your friends and family today! As always, do not hesitate to call or email with any comments, questions, or ideas.

Thank you, Mary Beth Langlinais,

Dear Valued City Club Member,

On behalf of the City Club at River Ranch, I am pleased to present a summary of upcoming member social events hosted in Restaurant Elevenhundred.  Please note that the restaurant will no longer be open for a la carte dining in order to host member private parties and regularly scheduled gatherings as outlined below.  I look forward to hearing your comments and ideas in regards to these events so that we can structure a yearly social calendar that will be well attended and enjoyed by our members.

  • Wine Connoisseur’s Club – This 2009 season will introduce a new format consisting of seven gourmet dinners featuring educational components from prominent wine makers and distributors.

  • Member Appreciation Gatherings – Scheduled quarterly, these casual festive member soirees will feature complimentary beer, wine, and passed Hors d’oeuvres.

  • Member Themed Dinners – Sure to impress, this rotating menu of special events, such as Prime Rib-eye, Lobster, and Seafood Nights, will resume monthly in 2009.

  • Afternoon High Tea – Chosen from 20 of the finest varieties, your tea is served in exquisite china and is poured through a strainer for the fullest flavor.  Signature champagne cocktails, a beautiful setting, and culinary delicacies will be savored while a harpist creates a harmonious ambience.

  • Lady’s card day – This City Club tradition will resume the second Tuesday of the month with choice of lunch options, mimosas, and door prizes.

  • Children’s Events – Anticipate a calendar of events for children of all ages after the New Year.

It’s never too late – or too early – to take charge of your health so that you can enjoy life to its fullest. At City Club at River Ranch, you can become more aware of how exercise, nutrition, relaxation, and engaging social experiences connect to how your body and brain perform. Our goal is to assist you in maintaining a balance in life through the choices you make every day. What are some plans, habits, or routines you can implement that will help you reach your optimal health and performance? How can you balance work and leisure? How can you correct imbalances that have manifested over time? John Keats, poet of the English Romantic movement, writes Give me books, nourishing food, French wine, and fine weather with a little music outdoors played by someone I don’t know. City Club at River Ranch would be a place Mr. Keats would enjoy, I believe. From enjoying an array of fine wines at the Wine Connoisseur’s events, to listening to great music at Rhythms on the River, or choosing nutritious options at Sunday Brunch, we have plenty of opportunities for balancing wellbeing and pleasure. In 2009, you can anticipate a variety of new Health and Vitality programs as summarized below:

  • Expanded healthy menu options in the Oasis – Great salads, grilled lean proteins, wraps, burgers, and more within a casual seating area in the fitness center. Plan to visit after your tennis game, workout, or with business associates.
  • Nutrition services including whole food cooking demonstrations, nutritionally appropriate meals for sale to take home (prepared by our chefs and designed by our dietitian), weight loss and diabetes management classes, nutrition and aging well symposiums, and more.
  • A Votre Sante’ presentations, acupuncture, and naturopathic consultations with Dr. Bridgett Simon in Riverspa.
  • Wine Connoisseur’s Club, light selections at Sunday Brunch, and Chef meets Dietitian for nutritional calculations of our selected menu items.
  • The professionals in the fitness center are always researching trends in the industry to ensure you can participate in the most popular and effective programs and services. Bosu ball classes are on the way, new strength training and cardio equipment are on order, and an invitation for a complimentary 30 minute Pilates session on the equipment is extended to members. Read more about ski camp, Zumba, XOW, or Small Group Training in this newsletter!

I invite you to explore the many possibilities that we offer to add excellence and satisfaction to your life. If you have any ideas or insights, do not hesitate to share.

September/October 2008
Great customer service is only delivered by passionate, caring employees. We take pride in our team because we understand that other organizations may be able to match our price or offer similar services, but they cannot replicate the spirit and attitude of our staff. City Club has four WIGs, or Wildly Important Goals, that we infuse into our Corporate University employee customer service training. They are summarized as follows:

Providing Professional Service. This includes the personal appearance and attitude of our staff in the perception of our members and guests.

Offering Personalized Service. Anticipating the needs and expectations of you, our members, by knowing your names, your favorite retail items, your signature cocktails, or your favorite workout classes.

Being Empowered. Our organizational culture is to give every employee the tools he/she needs to handle a request, problem, or difficult situation in a timely and appropriate manner.

Embracing Information. As portrayed in this newsletter, we offer many programs and events ranging from tennis tournaments to Carriage House Suites member preferred rates to Riverspa member specials, etc. We aspire to educate our employees so they can better serve you.

What makes City Club truly spectacular is that no two members are exactly alike. We don’t assume that everyone wants the same amenities, so the best way to find out is to ask you. We speak with many of you on a daily basis and have implemented services and programs based on our conversations. Examples include offering more variety of food items in our Member Social Night. So, in addition to the Lobster Night theme, we now provide Prime Rib-eye, Tuna, Seafood, and more.

An overwhelming number of you also want more activities for your children, thus we have accordingly enhanced our youth programs, including age appropriate dining opportunities and more interactive activities in the Fun Zone and Kids’ Club. We will not say Wow, we love complaints, but as ironic as it might seem, we welcome your feedback, including complaints, for that is how we will provide consistent and excellent service. If you should observe an employee exceeding the desired service standards depicted in the WIGS summarized above, or if you have a comment or complaint, please communicate with me in person, by phone, or via email. I ensure you that your observations are valued and action will be taken.

Schedule your makeover with Jen Rausch at Riverspa for your special occasions.
